Former Volunteer Firefighter In Region Who 'Always Put Others Before Herself' Dies At Age 85 Friends and loved ones are mourning the loss of a former firefighter in the region with a history of serving her community. Saratoga County’s Carole McBride, of the Town of Halfmoon, died Friday, Dec. 23, at the age of 85, according to her obituary. A cause of death was not given. Born in Troy on Feb. 26, 1937 to parents Hubert and Helen Muckle, “she was known for her warm and welcoming personality, always putting others before herself, and going out of the way to help those in need,” reads her memorial. Rest Area McDonald's Worker Intentionally Set Fire To Building In Region, Police Say A McDonald’s employee at a rest area in the region is facing charges after allegedly setting fire to the building. State Police in Albany County were initially called to the Guilderland Travel Plaza on I-90 just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, with reports of a fire. Investigators determined that 19-year-old Nyri Baird, of Guilderland, had intentionally started the fire while working at the McDonald's located in the building, police said. Driver From Region Stranded On Highway Was 3 Times Legal Limit For Alcohol, Police Say A woman from the region is facing drunk driving charges after she was allegedly found on the Thruway with a blood alcohol concentration three times the legal limit to drive, authorities said. State Police in Orange County spotted 36-year-old Karen Bermejo, of Albany, at around 3:20 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, on I-87 in the town of Tuxedo after getting word that her vehicle had a flat tire. Duo Used Stolen Credit Cards To Buy Target Gifts Cards In Capital Region, Police Say Police in the region are asking for help in identifying two people wanted in connection with a grand larceny investigation involving stolen credit cards. The credit cards were in a purse that was stolen in Columbia County from La Bella’s Restaurant in Valatie in September 2022, according to State Police. Passenger Busted With Illegal Gun, Ammunition During Traffic Stop On Long Island, Police Say A traffic stop on Long Island ended with a passenger in handcuffs on weapons charges. Officers in New Cassel stopped a Dodge Charger at around 9:20 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, near Prospect and Magnolia avenues due to a suspended registration, according to Nassau County Police.
