Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

One Stabbed, One Slashed In Paterson By Anti-Gay Assailant, Authorities Say UPDATE: A man who stabbed one person and slashed another overnight in Paterson made several anti-gay slurs, authorities said. Another Montclair State Student Seized On Child Porn Charges A second Montclair State University student was arrested on child porn charges, only this time by federal authorities. Sean Lynch, 21, of Summit, used an instant messaging app to share six dozen videos of children being sexually abused, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said. Teen Driver, Passenger Switch Seats In Moving Vehicle During Clifton Pursuit Two teenage drivers switched seats in a stolen vehicle while it was moving in a Clifton police pursuit, authorities said. Verdict: Man Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Paterson Girl, 5, Convicted Of Lesser Charge A Paterson man originally accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl in her home was convicted of a significantly lesser charge last week, authorities said. Judge Frees Soccer Player From Poland Charged With Viciously Beating Wallington Bar Patron A soccer player from Poland pummeled a man with his fists and feet outside a Wallington bar, sending the victim to the hospital with four broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a facial fracture, authorities said. Hackensack Man With Priors Charged With Attempted Murder In Paterson Shooting A Hackensack man was charged with attempted murder for shooting a Paterson resident, authorities said. Jamal Rollins, 29, was identified and captured by city police less than a week after the May 5 shooting near the corner of Pearl and Summer streets. Toxic Pollution Concerns Rekindled By 'Canonball 2' Wildfire On DuPont Site UPDATE: A blaze that burned through much of the weekend in the Ramapo Mountains wasn't the usual run-of-the-mill forest fire. Route 287 Fatal Jeep Veers Off Highway, Into Tree, Ejecting Morris County Driver, 29 UPDATE: A driver who was ejected after his Jeep veered off Route 287 and into a tree early Saturday afternoon was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said.
