Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

One Home Ravaged, Another Severely Damaged By Unforgiving Paterson Fire Two firefighters were injured and at least two residents required medical attention from a fast-moving blaze Tuesday afternoon that ravaged one Paterson home and severely damaged another. Stricken Tow Truck Driver Crashes Into Tree Off Route 17 A tow truck crashed into a tree just off Route 17 in Paramus when its driver suffered what responders said was a medical episode Tuesday afternoon. A paramedic team from the Valley Hospital tended to the driver from Criger's Auto Body in Fairfield near the former Barnes & Noble at the intersection of Glen Avenue and the southbound highway before taking him back with them. Pedestrian Hit By Tractor-Trailer On Route 17 A 47-year-old Bogota man was hospitalized after being struck by a tractor-trailer on southbound Route 17 in Hackensack, authorities said. It was shortly after 11:30 p.m. Monday, May 15, when Hasbrouck Heights police responded to the incident at their border, Lt. John Behr said. Tractor-Trailer Fire Jams NJ Turnpike Rush Into NYC A tractor-trailer burst into flames on the I-95 approach from the New Jersey Turnpike to the George Washington Bridge, clogging the Tuesday morning rush. The driver got the rig onto the shoulder of the local lanes near mile marker 117, roughly two-tenths of a mile before the Ridgefield Park exit, shortly after 6:30 a.m. May 16. Flames spread along the bottom of the trailer as the driver got out safely. Black smoke could be seen for miles. Ridgefield Park firefighters doused the blaze. No injuries were immediately reported. New Jersey State Police are investigating the cause.
