At 4:39 a.m., officers responded to North Hope Chapel Road and New Central Avenue after a vehicle struck a tree, Jackson Township police said. The two victims were pronounced dead at 5:26 a.m., while the other three occupants, all teenagers, were transferred to a nearby hospital, police said. Newark Man Killed After Car Strikes Tree On Route 78: Njsp A 48-year-old Newark man was killed in a car crash after striking a tree on Route 78 in Newark Thursday evening, May 22, authorities said. At 9:59 p.m., troopers responded to the scene after a Nissan 350Z was traveling west on the Route 78 ramp from Route 1 and 9, before veering off the roadway to the left and striking a tree, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said.   The driver, Gregory Williams, was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, Lebron said.
