Full Closures Scheduled For Portion Of Long Island Expressway Scheduled roadwork could spell delays for Long Island drivers in the coming days. Both directions of the Long Island Expressway are slated to close nightly at exit 48 in Huntington beginning Wednesday, Dec. 13 and lasting until Friday, Dec. 22. Each night, I-495 will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. while crews facilitate an ongoing bridge deck renewal project, according to the Department of Transportation. Inmate Assaults, Injures Corrections Officer At Capital Region Jail, Police Say A jail inmate in the region is accused of attacking a corrections officer, leaving them with injuries requiring medical attention. The incident happened Monday, Dec. 4, at the Saratoga County Correctional Facility in Ballston Spa. Sheriff’s officials said Godfrey Waldron, age 44, of Saratoga Springs, assaulted a corrections officer, injuring the officer’s face. The officer was treated at the scene before being taken to Malta Med Emergent Care for further treatment. Waldron was arraigned in Milton Town Court and was ordered held at the jail without bail.

Friend Hits Woman In Head With Hammer, Pushes Victim's Child At Long Island Home, Police Say Police are asking for help in locating a woman accused of attacking a Long Island mother with a hammer and pushing her child. The incident happened Monday, Oct. 30 in Riverside, according to Suffolk County Police. Detectives said Ligia Lopez-Menendez, age 37, went to a friend’s home and pushed the woman’s child before striking the woman in the head with a hammer. Stabbed 65 Times: Capital Region Man Murdered 21-Year-Old In 'Fit Of Rage,' Jury Finds A jury has found a 24-year-old man guilty of stabbing his friend to death during an altercation at a home in the region. Jaquan Morrison, of Schenectady, was convicted of murder in Schenectady County Court on Friday, Dec. 8, in the killing of 21-year-old Dwayne Harris. Prosecutors said Harris allowed Morrison to stay at a Schenectady home, located on Maple Avenue, that he shared with several roommates in April 2022. Drunk Driver Strikes 2 Cop Cars Near Long Island Cemetery, Police Say A Long Island man is accused of crashing into two police cars while driving drunk. The incident happened at around 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, near the Riverhead Cemetery on Roanoke Avenue.
