Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Bicyclist, 48, Struck In Franklin Lakes Intersection Dies UPDATE: A 48-year-old bicyclist from Wyckoff died following a collision with an SUV in Franklin Lakes, authorities said. Attempted Murder: Fort Lee Man Surrenders In Stabbing UPDATE: A 37-year-old Fort Lee resident was charged with attempted murder after he stabbed another man at a home across from a grammar school, authorities confirmed. Local Man Struck By Train In Lyndhurst A 60-year-old Lyndhurst man suffered severe injuries when he was hit by a train Friday night. The westbound NJ TRANSIT Main Line train struck the man just before the Kingsland Station shortly before 5:30 p.m. Aug. 4 in what responders said wasn't an accident. Van Splits Utility Pole On Route 4 Approach A van slammed into a utility pole, splitting it, just off westbound Route 4 on Friday. The driver of the Chevrolet Astro van was checked out at the scene and released following the crash just past Lakeview Street on the Grand Avenue approach to the highway in River Edge shortly before noon Aug. 4. The incident jammed area traffic. All Points Towing removed the vehicle and a crew from PSE&G replaced the pole.

Clifton Carpenter Charged With Sexually Assaulting Underage Englewood Teen A 49-year-old carpenter from Clifton sexually assaulted an underage teen in Englewood, authorities charged. Esmond A. Paterson Man, 63, Busted For Dealing Coke A 63-year-old Paterson man was caught selling cocaine from a local bar, Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik said.
