Nor'easter With 60 MPH Winds Gets A Name: Where Josephine's Headed The stubborn Nor’easter offshore has a name and a new classification, but its coastal hazards won't disappear overnight. The National Weather Service says the system became Subtropical Storm Josephine on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The change does not alter the expected local impacts. The National Hurricane Center’s early advisory Thursday, Oct. 22, says Josephine is accelerating northeastward away from the United States and is expected to become a powerful extratropical cyclone. That track takes the center farther offshore while shifting rain and wind toward Atlantic Canada. AccuWeather expects i…

East Coast On Alert As Offshore Storm Could Take Tropical Turn An offshore storm could take a tropical turn, giving East Coast communities another reason to watch the forecast closely. The National Hurricane Center's outlook gives the system a 40 percent chance of developing within seven days, but a near-zero chance within 48 hours. The non-tropical low sits a few hundred miles off the southeastern US coast. It could acquire subtropical characteristics later this week if it remains over the Gulf Stream and separates from an associated front, the NHC said. AccuWeather identifies a medium risk of tropical or subtropical development from Tuesday, Oc…

Snow Outlook: National Weather Service Releases Winter Forecast Will this winter bring buried driveways or another season of waiting for snow? A new federal outlook offers clues about what the Northeast could face. NOAA’s National Weather Service released its winter outlook Thursday, Oct. 15, favoring above-average temperatures across the Northeast and wetter-than-average conditions along the East Coast from December through February 2027. That combination leaves an important question unresolved: How much of that precipitation will fall as snow? The NOAA outlook does not predict seasonal snowfall totals. Its maps show the odds of warmer, colder, wetter…
