A former New Jersey music teacher and school administrator, incarcerated for sexually assaulting at least two students, has given up his teaching certifications with the force of a revocation, state officials confirmed. John DeFalco, a 71-year-old Rockaway resident, was killed in a fatal crash on Route 80 on Sunday, June 8, authorities said. At 9:18 a.m., a Kia Sportage driven by DeFalco was traveling westbound on Route 80 in Parsippany-Troy Hills when it veered off the roadway to the right and struck a guardrail, causing the vehicle to overturn, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for New Jersey State Police said. 'Not A Pothole:' Emergency Repairs Close Route 80 In Rockaway
Yet another portion of Route 80 is currently closed for repairs. This time, it's not a pothole causing trouble, officials said. Two lanes and a shoulder of the eastbound lanes near Exit 37 in Rockaway were shut down shortly after 5 p.m. on May 12, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The closures were caused by a collapsed sewer basin, NJDOT said. Officials noted that the issue is not a sinkhole. A Rockaway woman has been charged with insurance fraud following an investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit. Christie Reyes, 37, gave authorities false information in an attempt to secure insurance coverage for a previously stolen vehicle, Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said. Reyes tried to obtain reimbursement for the theft after she had already secured new insurance coverage for the vehicle, Reyes said. Woman Left Child Locked In Cold Vehicle At Whippany Wegman's: Police
A 42-year-old Rockaway woman was arrested and charged on Monday, Dec. 23 after leaving a child unattended, locked in a vehicle, authorities said. Officers responded to Wegmans at 34 Sylvan Way in Whippany and found the child locked in the vehicle, the Hanover Township Police Department said. The high that day was 27 degrees. Tatiana Petrina was charged with child abandonment and released with a court date, police said. The child was unharmed during the incident, police said.

Three people were arrested after a man was assaulted by a firearm during a drug deal in Whippany on Saturday, Oct. 12, authorities said. Man Airlifted To Hospital After Car Overturns On Route 80 In Morris County:

A 27-year-old Rockaway man was seriously injured after a two-car crash caused his vehicle to overturn on Route 80 on Thursday, March 21, authorities said. At 7:34 p.m., on Route 80 west in Roxbury Township, a Ford vehicle collided with the back of a Dodge, ran off the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned, Troy McNair, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. The driver of the Ford suffered serious injuries and was medevacked to an area hospital, McNair said. No other injuries were reported and the crash remains under investigation, McNair said.
